[UP 003] How to stop being a zombie / Pairing your brand properly / $0 CPA
Here’s your weekly dose of UP: Unrelenting Progress
Thanks for being here! Now without further ado, let’s go.
Personal Growth: Change your lens
Do you ever just see a passing advert for some junk food and then immediately (and insistently) start craving it? Yeh, a marketer’s dream!
Well, how do we take back control of our mind and stop ourselves from zombie walking into that *insert your chosen junk food trap of choice*?
One way is to change our perception of something.
Reminds me of this super neat quote:
When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
So then on this theme of changing our perceptions, associations, and general feelings towards something that doesn’t serve us, check the video below for a cheesy (pun intended) yet effective exercise on how. (And even better, run the experiment on yourself!)
Business Growth: Pair properly
This week, today, in fact, we received the first samples of our first products.
High protein, low sugar chocolate bars. We got plant and whey protein variations.
Oh, and I forgot to tell you, we’re gonna be called ‘All Set Nutrition.’

Early verdict? Whey for the win. Great taste and sweetness. But this is just one supplier. Gotta carry on conversations and also get more feedback.
Meanwhile, I started working on our brand visual design. I want it to have a family-friendly feel, appealing to both young adults as well as children too.
Here we are on Facebook with an early look at what I want us to look like.
(Give us a follow, and tell me what you think!)
On the brand colours and fonts, I found these two helpful tools to help construct things to go together.

Community Growth: Gamify growth
How do you grow your list for free?
It’s a question I always love to ask when audience and community building.
Well of course one tried and tested way that still works today is a killer referral strategy.
I’ve long wanted to do something what like ‘Harry’s’, the razor company did to grow their prelaunch list.
If you don’t know, to give a quick summary, they ended up building a list size over 100k emails in just seven days. And what’s crazy, is that 77% was free, all driven by referrals.
Of course not all of the list ever buys but assuming conversion is at 8% (according to this recent article), then that’s 6,160 buyers. All for free. Zero cost of aquistion.
Wild.
This is an excellent article from a few years ago on Tim Ferriss’ blog that explains the campaign in more depth.
I’ll be studying this very carefully and modelling it as best I can.
For now, here are some quick points to keep in mind:
Step 1: Make Special People Feel Special.
Step 2: Choose Tangible Rewards And Make Them Achievable.
Step 3: Make Sharing As Fun As Humanly Possible.
Step 4: Make Sharing As Easy As Humanly Possible.
Step 5: Start by Telling Your Friends–Use E-mail, Social, Etc.
Step 6: Protect Yourself Against Fraud
Alright, I’m out (and off to re-read this article!)
Have a great rest of the weekend. Until next week!
P.S, If you enjoyed this, then it’d make my day if you could share with a friend - see what I did there :)
